Fake Invoices Targeting Trucking Companies – Here's What You Need to Know
At Synchron Permits and Synchron Safety, we’ve recently been made aware of a deceptive tactic being used by a company operating under the website uscsco.com. They are sending official-looking invoices to motor carriers, claiming services were rendered—such as a “One Year VMT Update”—even though no such service was requested or delivered.
Below is an example of one such invoice that a client received:
Key details from the fake invoice:
Issued by: US Carriers Safety and Compliance LLC
Amount due: $150.00
Service listed: “ONE YEAR VMT UPDATE (Vehicles Miles Traveled)”
Urgent language citing FMCSA regulations and Title 49 CFR 390.19T
No real proof of service, just a phone number and a payment link
What’s Really Going On?
This type of invoice is not technically illegal—but it is highly unethical. Here’s the likely play:
They did not provide any actual service.
They use FMCSA language and deadlines to make it sound urgent and official.
Their goal is to get you to call, click the payment link, or reply to the email.
Once you’re on the phone, they attempt to upsell services or scare you into buying compliance help you may not even need.
This is a sales trap disguised as an invoice. A clear example of deceptive marketing targeting trucking companies, especially smaller fleets or new entrants who may be unfamiliar with standard FMCSA practices.
What You Should Do If You Receive One
Do NOT pay it blindly.
Double-check your FMCSA Portal – see if you actually need to update your VMT.
Do NOT call the number or reply to the email unless you are ready to be pitched.
Report the email as spam or phishing to your provider.
Consult your compliance provider (like us) for a real answer.
Remember: VMT Updates Are Free to File on Your Own
If you are due to update your Vehicle Miles Traveled (VMT) or Power Unit information, you can do this directly through the FMCSA Portal at no charge. You don’t need to pay third parties unless you’ve specifically hired someone to help with filings.
